Undulating Membrane

2023~

Undulating Membrane explores the fleeting, dynamic nature of emotion through sculptural photography. In this series, I create undulating forms as bases and embed my photographs onto them, using mulberry paper to emphasize delicacy and permeability.

Each piece captures how feelings shift and change depending on the light they are viewed under—how emotions transform with subtle changes in perspective, reflection, and shadow. The sculptural surfaces create ripples, folds, and sometimes even tears, distorting the photographic image into something alive and ever-changing.

By merging the two-dimensional image with sculptural volume, Undulating Membrane evokes the layered and unpredictable landscape of emotion—fragile, fluid, and constantly in motion. The title also references the undulating membranes of sea creatures, connecting the work to organic forms that move with quiet resilience through ocean water.
