Nereides

2025~

Nereides is a series that honors the quiet strength and subtle beauty of the ocean’s daughters. In this body of work, I print my photographs on special Korean Hanji paper and embellish them with mother of pearl. The rich shades of D-max that the matte Hanji paper holds contrast with the mother of pearl’s gentle iridescence, creating surfaces that shimmer with restrained luminosity.

Mother of pearl, like the Nereids themselves, originates from the sea—its layered radiance carrying a quiet resilience shaped by time, water, and pressure. I chose the title Nereides to evoke these ancient sea nymphs, who embody grace, depth, and silent power beneath the waves.

Unlike my other works, where I tear, burn, or heavily alter the photograph, Nereides remains subtle and restrained. Through this quiet approach, I explore strength in softness, beauty in stillness, and the layered memories and emotions that remain unspoken yet deeply felt—like the ocean’s ever-present, unseen currents.
